    POSITION SUMMARY 

    The HR Generalist – Employee Relations provides assistance to the Senior Vice President, Human Resources in administration of employee relations (ER) and HR Generalist functions within the department of human resources (HR). Conducts investigations related to employee complaints, prepares written investigative reports, and makes recommendations to the Senior Vice President, Human Resources. Researches ER best practices and presents ideas to SR. VP to assess feasibility and prepare implementation plans. Ensures confidentiality of information and sensitive documents by following organizations procedures and exercising judgment in responding to employee requests. May provide support in other HR functions on occasion.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Assists with management of employee relations grievances and questions.
    • Assists employees with inquiries regarding organization policies/procedures and general HR information. Analyzes unique situations for appropriate policy implementation
    • Assists with employee relations investigations and resolutions; conducts fact finding meetings or conversations with supervisors or employees. Uses judgment and knowledge of organization policies and procedures to resolve issues. Writes investigative reports and works with supervisor to make recommendations.
    • Assists with the development of forms and documents for employee relations and performance management.
    • Assist with management of and tracking for annual performance evaluations and calibration sessions
    • Provides advice regarding performance management/disciplinary procedure
    • Assists with complex employee inquiries, investigations and resolutions.
    • Serves as initial point of advice, problem resolution and facilitation in the areas of employee relations, performance management and employee discipline: advices both employees and management regarding employee relation policies, procedures and documentation; researches, identifies and analyzes specific employee relation concerns and makes appropriate recommendation to supervisor/manager.
    • With the SVP, Human Resources, plans, coordinates and facilitates training on ER issues such as conflict resolution and performance management.
    • Partners with Learning and Development Team to manage, organize and facilitate relevant educational opportunities, specifically focusing on ER issues.
    • Plans, coordinates and facilitates complex and tailored training on ER issues such as conflict resolution and performance management.
    • Collects and organizes data around employee relations issues so that data can be shared with Executive Staff on an annual basis.
    • Proactively identify organizational employee relations trends and propose solution that will assist in designing proactive strategies to improve employee relations.
    • Implement best practices to promote performance, employee engagement and connection to company culture.
    • Looks at best practice for ER analytics and uses this information to advise SVP, Human Resources on possible strategies for future planning.
    • Manage and track employee disciplinary action and identify recurring issues.
    • Facilitate employee separation process and exit interviews; identifies opportunities and areas of concern requiring follow up.
    • Maintains appropriate records/files of investigations.
    • Facilitate New Hire Survey by coordination and holding one-on-one meeting and manage follow-up with new employees to ensure proper training and development.
    • Provides regular status updates to employees, maintains employee contact until request is resolved and case has been closed
    • Assists with recruitment efforts by serving as back up for recruiting efforts.
    • Special projects and miscellaneous duties as needed or assigned.

     

     SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • This position may supervise temporary employees, volunteers, interns or trainees, as needed.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or relevant discipline required.
    • 3+ year of experience providing HR support or other directly related type work required, preferably in a medium size organization.
    • Knowledge of employment and labor law.
    • Patient, communicative team player that is detail-oriented and has outstanding interpersonal skills.
    • Well-versed with working cross-functionally to help resolve hiring issues and drive hiring processes.
    • Results-driven, hard-working individual who enjoys a challenge.
    • High level of professionalism, reliability and customer service orientation.
    • Willingness to travel to different locations and work flexible hours as needed.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Analytical aptitude and ability to problem solve and troubleshoot independently.
    • Positive attitude and the ability and desire to learn, grow and have fun working with a dynamic and fun team of passionate HR professionals.

    • Knowledge of Federal and state laws and regulations, FLSA, EEO and California wage and hour laws.

    • Considerable working knowledge of computers, word processing, spreadsheets, and database required (MS Office preferred).
    • Working knowledge of computerized Human Resources system preferred.
    • Ability to interact with all levels of management and employees across multiple departments.

    • Overall knowledge of the HR dept. and its functions.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

    • Excellent math skills.

    • Accurate typing and proofreading skills; and working knowledge of the use of standard office equipment.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

    Valid California Driver’s License and insurance required.

     

    LANGUAGE, MATH & REASONING SKILLS

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and policy and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, clients, governmental agencies and the general public. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
