    POSITION SUMMARY

     

    Under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Resident Services, the Youth Programs Manager is responsible for oversight of the delivery of youth programming at affordable housing properties within Eden Housing’s portfolio.  The Youth Programs Manager is responsible for oversight and development of youth programs that provide safe, active, educational and fun programming for children. Programs will be tailored to the resident population and their expressed needs, culturally relevant and age appropriate.  Programming may be developed and implemented for youth ranging in ages from 0 to 18 years old.   The Youth Programs Manager is responsible for the supervision of the Youth Program Coordinator and multiple After School Program Leaders providing youth programs to residents in affordable housing properties.  The Youth Programs Manager may also be responsible for oversight of Resident Services Coordinators providing services to residents in affordable housing properties.  Additionally, this role is responsible for the development of collaborative relationships with outside services to bring robust and relevant programming to Eden Housing properties.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assist with the development and oversee the implementation of uniform program procedures and processes for all youth programs.
    • Develop standardized curriculum and planning strategies for all youth programs including, but not limited to, afterschool programs, teen programs targeting college and career workshops, family engagement strategies, field trips and/or project based learning, in collaboration with the Associate Director of Resident Services or other designee.
    • Develop and conduct training for staff on standard youth program procedures, processes, and curriculum development.
    • Assist staff with implementation of youth program procedures, processes, and curriculum.
    • Assist in the development of pilot programs and related tools and outcome measurements to expand program offerings to meet identified resident needs.
    • Conduct research on youth development to inform program improvements.
    • Participate in trainings and conferences to remain current in the best practices for youth development programs.
    • Make recommendations on changes or improvements to the youth programs based on information from quality assessment site observations and trends in the industry.
    • Oversee the implementation of programming in the core service areas and progress toward program outcomes at all assigned sites.
    • Use program data and regular reporting as a tool for staff, program supervision and quality improvement.
    • Provide input in the development of resident services budgets. Responsible for monitoring budgets and reporting on variances.
    • Locate, develop, and maintain networks and partnerships with relevant service providers, community organizations, business and educational institutions and assist Resident Services staff to do the same.
    • Assist the Fund Development Department in soliciting donations from local businesses and vendors for events and activities. Provide information required to submit relevant grant applications for programming.
    • Participate in community groups working to improve services for residents in order to develop new resources that address unmet needs.
    • Facilitate effective working relationships between Resident Services and Property Management staff.
    • Contribute to positive and effective teamwork environment with colleagues.
    • Complete all required statistical records and reports in a timely manner.
    • Assist with designing and implement evaluation tools to assess quality of services and resident satisfaction with programming.
    • Attend all staff meetings, trainings and other appropriate meetings and conferences as required.

       

       

    • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

      Directly supervises Resident Services staff and or volunteers/interns.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, train, and orient employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    • 4-year college degree in education, youth development, sociology, psychology, or related field;
    • OR 4 years related experience and/or training;
    • OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Minimum 2 years of experience in developing and managing youth programs and/or staff management required.
    • Training and experience in tutoring, mentoring or teaching preferred. (May be volunteer experience.)
    • Experience with and aptitude for working with children, adults and families in a multi-cultural setting.
    • Knowledge of eligibility and procedures of federal and state entitlement programs and legal liability issues relating to service coordination.
    • Crisis and mental health experience preferred.

     

    PREFFERED SKILLS and/or ABILITIES

    • Experience with and aptitude for working with children and families.
    • Experience with using the Youth and School Aged Youth Program Quality Assessment tool from the Weikart Center for Youth Program Quality Improvement.
    • Knowledge of educational software preferred. Experience with Lexia preferred.
    • Knowledge of services available in Bay Area counties.
    • Proven ability to work with diverse groups in cooperative problem solving and consensus building.
    • Demonstrated ability to supervise others and recruit volunteers or other unpaid staff and supervise their activities. Demonstrated ability to establish trusting, confidential relationships.
    • Ability to develop effective working partnerships with various types of community groups and institutions.
    • Flexible and creative in working to make services accessible to residents in the most effective manner possible and effective at motivating individuals to actively participate in services.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to recognizing residents’ knowledge and experience as a valuable resource.
    • Excellent customer service skills, organizational skills, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Good communication (verbal and written), decision-making and evaluation skills.
    • Computer experience with database and word processing skills. Experience with Salesforce preferred.
    • Experience with budgeting preferred.
    • Ability to work some evenings and weekends, as required.
    • Ability to speak a second language preferred.
