Summary

This is an exciting opportunity which will provide hands on experience and ability to apply knowledge of accounting principles to real world accounting situations. The Accounting Intern will work on various aspects of accounting. The individual will assist with a wide range of duties, including preparing financial reports, analyzing data and learning about varied accounting activities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assist in cleaning up the vendor database in our accounts payable system- inactivate old vendors, review active vendor set up information, 1099 and EFT set up, attach default expense, payment and display options.  
    • Assist in contract set up in Yardi.
    • Set up all operational properties as vendors and inactivate old properties in the system.
    • Review bank information and assist in activating/inactivating bank accounts in the system.
    • Prepare loan amortization schedules.
    • Review and compare general ledger balances with loan confirmations received back from lenders and report variances.
    • Assist in general ledger loan balance clean up by standardizing loan principal and accrued interest accounts in the general ledger.
    • Prepare bank reconciliations for property reserve accounts.
    • Assist in reviewing tenant ledgers and receivables, HAP letters and prepare consolidated receipts.
    • Assist in reclassifying other reserve accounts to appropriate categories.
    • Help in setting up Investment Management module.
    • Assist in preparing MGP financial statements.
    • Help in collection of lease term data per new GAAP FASB.
    • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years of college level courses with an emphasis in accounting or 6 months to 1 year related experience and/or training;
  • OR equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent preferred.

  • Good communication (verbal and written) and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and successfully meet deadlines.

  • Flexible, creative, detail-oriented and well organized.
  • Ability to handle shifting and multiple priorities.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

Must have reliable transportation, a valid California Driver’s License, and automobile insurance.

 

LANGUAGE, MATH & REASONING SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as financial reports and ledgers, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to work with mathematical concepts.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Able to analyze and review financial data. High degree of accuracy in mathematical computations. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
